For the past two successful 1200s (2008 and 2009) I have been using a Selle An-Atomica saddle. It is an unpadded leather model with a slit down the middle. It has been 90% the perfect solution for me…but I wanted to see if there was something better. I sell saddles on my site (www.bgear.com) so testing is a natural thing for me. For the past 45 days I have used a modified (I cut my own slit down the middle) leather Origin 8 saddle for a bunch of 200Ks (nothing longer) and it seemed to work fine. During the first three days of this ride I made adjustments and it was basically doing fine. On the final ascent it was heavenly, but on the last DESCENT to Monroe it just started killing me, despite relubing along the way. Needless to say, I was suffering and finally made it…so now I ’m back to the drawing board. Or back to my Selle AT.
